I recently recieved a delightful parcel containing the shampoo and conditioner from the innovative brand * Purepotions.

I have the age old hair issues of dry, frizzy, unruly locks, but I also have psoriasis, an autoimmune condition where my scalp is incredibly dry and flaky. The team thought this would be a great product for me to trial and share my thoughts about with all you lovely lot.

I’ve been using the shampoo and conditioner combo for around 4 weeks now and I’m happy to report that first impressions  and lasting impressions have been great.

Purepotions, originally founded by a mother in search of a safe, effective, natural and non-steroidal moisturiser for her daughter’s dry skin, has been producing its well known Skin Salvation Range for over ten years. Hair care is a more recent addition to the already established and award winning brand, but continues to be made in the clearly defined ethos of the brand. Clean and kind to skin, animals and the environment.

Here’s what the brand have to say about their hair products:

“Purepotions have developed a natural hair care regime for those who want to use only the mildest and gentlest of botanical ingredients on their crowning glory! Kind to skin and kind to the planet, our Natural Shampoo with chamomile and calendula and Natural Conditioner with oats and hemp seed oil are made with gentle plant-based cleansers and ingredients of natural origin such as herbal tinctures, organic oils and plant extracts. They are free from potentially irritating or toxic additives such as perfumes, petrochemicals, parabens or SLS/SLES, so are also suitable for those prone to scalp psoriasis, eczema or dry, itchy, flaky scalps.”

Naturally (no pun intended) Purepotions products are demonstrably free from SLS and SLES and are made from the very finest ingredients, many of them organic and local, with absolutely nothing unnecessary ever added. Whats more the range is cruelty free and made in the UK

The shampoo smells devine, just like the clean botanical smell of a good spa. You only need a small amount and have to be prepared for the fact that it doesn’t lather, being SLS and SLES free. I have regular keratin straightening on my hair and so I have to use SLS free shampoo, so i’m quite used to using shampoos that don’t lather.

Being SLS and SLES free means it doesn’t contain sodium laurel sulphate or sodium laureth sulphate. SLS is a detergent and surfuctant which essentially means that it breaks surface tension and separates molecules in order to allow better interaction between the product and your hair. Its what makes the products lather. opinion is divided about it as there is suggestion that the chemical is linked to cancers and other health conditions. And as more and more great products emerge on the market that work just as effectively without them, the question is, should we bother with them at all?

The conditioner is rich and nourishing, it feels more like a mask then a conditioner. It’s very natural looking, almost like a clay mask in colour and texture. Again reassuringly natural and free from any unnecessary colourants and chemicals. After use my hair felt soft, clean and not at all heavy. It also had a nice natural shine, which is reassuringly not because of added silicones, which a lot of brands use to give your hair shine. Rest assured any good results are naturally derived.

Using Purepotions these past 4 weeks has been a positive experience. I have found that the more I have used the shampoo and conditioner, the better my hair has become. My scalp is still itchy but the ingredients have definitely soothed some of the irritation. I imagine that with prolonged use it will become more and more comfortable.

You can get your hands on the Pure potions range from a number of places including direct from their website, QVC ,Boots, Holland & Barratt and Amazon. I hope you enjoy the range as much as I did.
