Skin Deep Skin Dupe: Lacura Caviar Skin care review

Aldi Caviar illumination skincare day and night cream

I’m a little more then excited to be writing this post. I’ve had to tell myself off a few times this weekend and remind myself that patience is a virtue.

You see, I have made a small but significant purchase. And I needed a few days to get acquainted with said purchase before putting all my (caviar) eggs in one basket, and telling you all how marvellous it was.

I’m something of a skincare snob. I’m renowned and ridiculed for it in equal measure by la familia, but I know it. I’m just a magpie when it comes to shiny packaging and shinier shops to buy such packages from. It will therefore come as quite a surprise when the family read this post and see that I have made a cosmetics purchase from the supermarket! And not just any supermarket, the superhero of low cost supermarkets, Aldi, no less!

I had read a review about the new Caviar Illumination cream range which consists of a day cream, night cream, exfoliation mask and 7 day skin renewal treatment oil. I was drawn to the article on the lovely blog Ayelined by the beautiful Trona (go check her out she’s a genius!), because I thought it was a review of La Prairie, renowned swiss skincare range and infamously expensive. I would imagine it is no mistake that the packaging is distinctly similar to it’s swiss counterpart and that the use of caviar and snow algae is what aligns it so closely and competitively with the luxury brand.  Imagine then my delight when I learned that us mere mortals could get our mitts on these wonder ingredients at quite literally a fraction of the price.

At £7.99 these really are quite literally a steal!I hurried down to an Aldi store and I scoped up the day and night cream. Disappointingly there were no other products beneath a big sign stating” Maximum 4 products per person”. I blushed slightly at the thought of the frenzy that must have initiated the need for such a sign, knowing full well I would have led the mob to the door of Aldi at opening, had I known about the release of this skincare range sooner. Anyway, I was pleased with my purchases and skipped home thinking about the transformation that lie ahead.

I usually try to be disciplined about using up products before trying new ones, but this seemed simply much too good of an opportunity to miss. I am utterly delighted with my current skincare range and had no prior intentions to make any changes to my cultivated and perfectly functioning routine, but hey what’s a girl to do? And so once home I tore open the packaging and set about slathering the creams all over my skin.

Both creams are a medium texture. Neither one is going to fall out of the pot if you hold it upside down-think whipped cream texture. However, it is deceptively light once applied to the skin, absorbing quickly and leaving no sticky residue. It smells fresh, botanic and not at all overwhelming.

Now here’s the really good part. I noticed a difference immediately. Yes literally, immediately. My skin looked brighter, illuminated definitely a better version of what it was just a few moments prior. Now I suspect that has something to do with the ingredients and there being some sort of illuminating, reflective quality to them, but I can’t say, other then when I apply makeup, I have ever had a skin care product that has worked quite so instantly.

The day cream contains SPF15 UVA and UVB filters. Winner! It contains the caviar extract and snow algae which stimulates collagen synthesis. Plumper more youthful looking skin anyone? It also contains hyaluronic acid which helps to retain skins own natural moisture and improve the appearance of fine lines.

In the evening I applied my night cream and I was excited to wake up the following morning for the results. I wasn’t disappointed. I was ‘sans’ the usual creases I get on my face, which I believe is associated not only with my lack of silk pillow slips, but also dehydration. I make a habit of drinking more then my fair share of water and so I believe I am someone who simply has dry skin. Well not this morning! My skin was plumper and more hydrated. I noticed that the necklace lines around my décolletage were less visible also. Hurrah!

The night cream contains the same caviar extract and snow algae as well the hyaluronic acid and additional provitamin B5. It’s a potent anti-ageing cocktail.

As well as improving collagen synthesis and reducing the ageing process, the creams are designed to help detoxify the skin cells, reduce inflammation and redness, and enhance radiance. The recommendation is that using the skin care for at least 2 months will elicit visible results. I’d say they’re being more then cautious here. I think most people would see results far sooner.

I have continued to use the creams for the past 72 hours. I know I know, it’s very early days, but I have seen a significant improvement in my skins appearance. I appreciate that this may not be working at a deeper level and that the promises that are made to reduce the signs of ageing and slow the process may not be delivered, but I’m thinking, it’s been good for it’s word so far, so why not?

I will keep you updated and review the products again in a month. For now I would say that you have absolutely nothing to lose by trying these products. Well, only £7.99, but whose counting?
