Balearic Adventure: The Free Upgrade

Everyone everywhere, no matter how old or young, rich or poor, whatever their walk of life, everyone wants to hear those magical words…

Free Upgrade!

So, several days into our Mallorca adventure we heard these magic words and were told that we were the chosen ones! We were being upgraded. To a rather tasty suite on the top level of the hotel no less. We were already staying in a very plush room but had had some issues with air conditioning and a leak from one of the rooms above ( the hotel had only been open 4 weeks and was having the usual teething problems). We were, although excited at the notion of a free upgrade, a little frustrated at the prospect of having to pack up and move at this stage of our holiday. However, our frustrations wained in the blink of any eye. Quelle Surprise!

We packed up our belongings and caught the elevator to the upper echelons of the hotel. We had arrived!

The Suite

On entering the room the first thing that knocked you sideways was the breathtaking view of the ocean. Full length glass doors framed the stunning view. There was a double balcony to sit on and think about how lucky you are and drink in that beautiful balearic view, with a side portion of sangria if you are so inclined. I was. Often.

The view was so impressive I wasn’t able to actually explore our room for several minutes. I could have easily filled my SD card with pictures of this view alone. The blues and greens are irresistible, they’re calming soothing and exciting all at the same time. They seem to invite you in. I didn’t take much persuading.

Alas, I had to leave the view for a few moments to check out our sizeable new digs.

There was easily enough room for 4-6 people to comfortably stay here. The room was large and spacious. A sort of L-shape.

On entering there is a closet space with ample storage for clothing, suitcases and all of your belongings. It’s neatly tucked away so as not to impose on the clean lines and decoration of the suite. As you walk into the body of the room you are of course met with the view…that view!

Sorry I digress.

You have immediately in front of you a small table and chairs for reading and a table and chairs for dining. There was also a double leather couch/sofa bed, which would be useful for an intimate group or for families.

Across from the bed is the bathroom and dressing room area. This area can be made more private if you are a group or family with the closing of a curtain.

The dressing area is panelled with floor to ceiling mirrors and there is a huge free-standing bathtub which has a dreamy view of the ocean.

There’s a large walk-in double shower, with tiled walls and it is enclosed with glass doors. The whole design is geared towards creating space and making the most of the light. There’s a double sink (eeeek!!!) with additional storage and a separate WC. Necessity of course.

Fluffy towels, bathrobes and slippers are in good supply and replaced as needed.

Free Loewe amenities dress the sink. Loewe is a popular and coveted luxury Spanish brand. We were generously stocked.

I immediately set about testing the facilities and amenities Starting with filling the huge bath. A bubble bath  of course.

I was super chuffed with the room and with our good fortune. I floated about with a smile on my face whilst the tub filled, releasing the lovely aroma of the Loewe bath bubbles into the open expansive space.

I popped outside a few times more to check on the view. I had to make sure it wasn’t a dream after all!

I plunged into the tub and into a delicious reverie. I had found my heaven. The sea breezed through our doors and I could hear the ocean kissing the sand. It was bliss.

After a soak in the tub and whiling away the evening admiring the view from our new abode we headed out for dinner and returned home, excited to sleep in our super-king bed.

Sunrise…

I however had butterflies in my tummy all night and woke every hour. I was so excited for sunrise, I knew it was going to be impressive…

It didn’t disappoint.

My obsession with sunrise and sunset continued over the following days. Every day as good a the last. Consistently beautiful and breathtaking.

These have been some of the most beautiful moments I have been lucky enough to witness. So peaceful and unassuming but with so much promise for the day ahead.

I really fell in Love with Majorca here. In this expansive room of the Melia Antillas Calvia Beach hotel. The suite was beautiful and comfortable, everything you would expect from a hotel of this level. It is suitable for all travellers but particularly those looking for a little luxury and pampering.

But it is not the material items, the design features or the Egyptian cotton sheets that steel your heart (although it helps!). It is the feeling that you are in the picture, that you are part of the beautiful scene beyond you balcony. The unparalleled view from these consciously appointed suites are little less then remarkable. They’re perfect.

Can I just stay here forever?…
